Paris attack: Knifeman kills one before being shot by police

A knifeman has murdered one individual and injured four of every a presumed fear assault in focal Paris, French authorities say. 

The assailant was then shot dead by police in the Opéra locale. Witnesses say they heard him yell "Allah Akbar". 

Alleged Islamic State (IS) later said one of its "officers" had completed the assault on Saturday evening. 

Legal sources revealed to French media the assailant was a man conceived in 1997 in the southern Russian republic of Chechnya. 

The sources said his folks had been held for addressing. 

Inside Minister Gérard Collomb said the casualty of the assault was a 29-year-old man, yet gave no further points of interest. 

French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted (in French): "France has by and by paid in blood, yet won't offer a bit of leeway to the adversaries of flexibility." 

How did the occasions unfurl? 

The aggressor started cutting passers-by at around 21:00 neighborhood time (19:00 GMT) on the regret Monsigny. 

Observers portrayed him as a young fellow with dark colored hair and a whiskers, wearing dark tracksuit pants.



The man tried to enter several bars and restaurants but was blocked by people inside. Police arrived at the scene within minutes.

They first tried to stop the assailant with a stun-gun before shooting him dead.

An eyewitness, named as Gloria, told AFP news agency: "We didn't know what was going on, we were quickly moved inside the bar, I went outside and I saw a man lying on the floor."

Jonathan, a server at a nearby eatery, told AFP: "I saw him with a blade in his grasp. He looked insane." 

He said a lady the assailant had wounded kept running into the eatery dying. The aggressor endeavored to take after her inside, however was battled off lastly fled. 

Two of the injured in the assault are in a genuine condition however don't have dangerous wounds. 

Later at night the IS assemble said it was behind the assault, in a short proclamation posted on its news outlet. 

How did French specialists respond?

Head administrator Edouard Philippe said police were on the scene five minutes after a crisis call and the assailant was killed "under nine minutes after the fact". 

Mr Collomb applauded police for their "cool reaction". He said his first contemplations were "with the casualties of this horrifying demonstration". 

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo tweeted (in French): "This evening, our city was wounded." 

"I need to disclose to them that all Parisians are their ally," she included.

How has France been countering security threats?


France has been on high alert following a series of attacks. More than 230 people have been killed by IS-inspired jihadists in the past three years.

The deadliest violence occurred on 13 November 2015, when gunmen and suicide bombers struck various venues in Paris almost simultaneously - killing a total 130 people.
